Community Based Learning,
& Virtual High School
The Community Based Learning Program at Brattleboro Union High School is an educational pathway for those students who are at risk of not successfully completing high school. It is designed to provide real world learning experiences for students in grades 11 and 12. The Community Based Learning Program places students in internships with local businesses and organizations. Through this internship experience, students will pursue their personal interests and develop their academic skills. Upon successful completion of their internship, students will earn credit toward graduation.
Virtual High School requires a high degree of self-motivation, discipline and independence. Students must be able to meet deadlines and attend class regularly without being in the traditional classroom setting. VHS is open for fully enrolled 11th graders and 12th graders. Students are required to be in the Library for their VHS class time. VHS courses meet for fifteen (15) consecutive weeks regardless of individual school calendars. Some VHS courses are year long and Flex classes require an additional screening. VHS courses meet during Thanksgiving, Winter Recess and Spring break. A VHS course can only be taken for elective credit. BUHS does provide computer access for students, but additional computer access is also very helpful.
